Area residents can use any of the 800 cars in the company’s fleet throughout the District of Columbia and Arlington, Virginia. Also, there are new cars which have been added to its growing fleet. The new vehicles have a wider body, unlocks in five seconds, is bluetooth compatible, have seat warmers, and an improved turning radius.
Car2Go members can begin and end trips at any legal on-street parking spot in DC or Arlington. Cars do not have to be returned a designated parking spot, like ZipCar or Enterprise CarShare. Cars are unlocked via smartphone; the keys are inside.
Washingtonians and the city’s visitors alike are generally pleased with car2go. Tourist Viktor Pruvis said, “I’m in DC for nine days and my friend who lives here doesn’t have a car, but she’s using car2go. I like that we don’t have to worry about where we park.”
Parking is rarely an issue for car2go because the company has paid DC government $793,000.00. This allows members to park at city meters without paying; and park in any zoned parking area in DC.
The insurance changes go into effect January 1, 2017. The Terms and Conditions and Trip Process changes and new fees go into effect January 2, 2017.
